Kundekari (Kündekari) is a woodworking technique from the Selcuk era in Anatolia. It was a technique that required expert workmanship. It fastens octagons, rhombuses, asterisk and other such geometric shapes by interlocking them (see the photo of an original wooden ceiling done with this technique). This tile is an adaptation of the original patterns into tile. Today the patterns are hand carved into the tile and hand glazed, in keeping with the old artisan standard. In the second photo you can see four tiles forming a complete pattern (before it is glazed).
We think this pattern comes to its´ own in a space that is big enough to display the repeated ornamental beauty. Your selection of glaze color and finish will transform this design to different decoration moods.
