Nicaea was an ancient Greek city in the north western part of Anatolia, which became known as Iznik under Ottoman rule. Iznik is famous for its glorious history as the major center for Turkish ceramics production during the Ottoman times. It experienced its golden era during the 16th and 17th centuries. The best known examples from this period are the colorful hand painted tiles, with bright red, blue and green patterns on white background.
The relief tiles presented here with a single color are perhaps a more subtle and modern way to introduce the Nicea patterns to a contemporary decor. We think this pattern comes to its´ own in a space that is big enough to display the repeated ornamental beauty. Your selection of glaze color and finish will transform this design to different decoration moods.
