Onyx is a hard and exquisitely beautiful stone that is more expensive than the other natural stone varieties. This is why it is being mined in Turkey only as a by-product by marble quarry owners. Onyx is actually a type of marble and has many of the same properties. The difference with marble comes from the stunning patterns and a rainbow of colors. What sets onyx apart is its lack of opacity. Onyx is more translucent, which makes it ideal to be used for lighting and to be  creatively lit, which will emphasize the stone’s patterns. 

Onyx is available in shades of green, white, yellow/orange, red, brown and multicolor. To name some hit colors of onyx on the market today: mint, jade, light pink and warm tan, this material is a designer’s dream come true in terms of visually stunning, jewel-like options. Because of its high price, onyx is mostly used in decorative objects, countertops and backsplashes, feature walls and other areas where a serious wow-factor is needed. Onyx looks stunning in fireplace surroundings, especially when lit. It is also one of the best stones to be used in bookmatched installations.
